A Classic Summer Wedding at Union Station in St. Louis
There’s something truly timeless about a wedding at St. Louis Union Station, and I loved every second of capturing Maddy & Michael’s elegant June celebration. From the moment I walked into Union Station’s grand hall, I knew this day was going to be one for the books. Their wedding perfectly blended classic, sophisticated style with fun, personal details that made it so uniquely them.
Why Union Station is the Perfect Backdrop
When Maddy & Michael told me they’d chosen Union Station, I was thrilled. It’s one of my favorite venues in St. Louis—not just because of the historic architecture, but because of the sheer variety of stunning spaces it offers. Between the soaring ceilings and intricate detailing, it’s a photographer’s dream. Their ivory and black color palette was the perfect complement to the grand, classic vibe of the space.
Personal Touches That Made the Day
One of the things I always encourage my couples to do is infuse personal touches into their day—and Maddy & Michael did exactly that.
The day started in the bridal suite where the girls were enjoying champagne with a hand-painted champagne bottle featuring Union Station itself, which was such fun and creative touch. Guests found their seat by picking up a basketball jersey escort card featuring their name and table number during cocktail hour. After the formalities, they both swapped their shoes for Nike sneakers and hit the dance floor—bringing in their shared love of basketball and keeping the energy high all night.
My Favorite Moments to Capture at Union Station
There’s no shortage of photo opportunities at this venue. Some of my favorite spots to shoot include:
The Grand Hall, with its sweeping arches and historic feel.
The exterior architecture, which offers elegant backdrops and soft light.
The smaller, tucked-away corners that allow for intimate portraits away from the crowd.
Maddy & Michael opted to stay indoors for most of their photos and all of their main events, comfortably away from the summer heat and humidity. And, with the variety in Union Station’s settings, I was able to capture everything from classic, indoor portraits to joyful, unfiltered moments in such a beautiful way.
Tips for Planning Your Union Station Wedding
Thinking about hosting your big day at Union Station? Here are a few recommendations based on my experience:
Lean into the venue’s grandeur. Classic color palettes like black, ivory, gold, or green tones work beautifully here.
Incorporate personal details. Whether it’s keepsake items, themed escort cards, or fun outfit swaps—those small touches make the day feel unmistakably yours.
Get ready on site. Union Station has so many incredible spots; staying in one location will give your timeline plenty of flexibility to take advantage of everything it has to offer.
Consider lighting. Adding candles to the reception enhances the already gorgeous architecture and creates a warm, romantic vibe.
